I quite like what you are trying to do with your forest shots.The patterns and shapes, to me make the shot.I think that the harsh lighting is a problem,to many blown high lights.
I would suggest that you go back to the forrest at first light in the morning and capture those first rays of light comming through the trees.
Another go time to do forest photos is on a over cast day.And don't forget to use a polariser filter

Hi Joseph.
Lovely image with the moonlight reflecting on the water. It does get a little lost with the large expanse of water on the left and there is colour in the cloud around the moon that I would enjoy a closer view.
I have done a workshop on a crop only as all your colour, detail, exposure, are all good.
Hope you enjoy the image.

Hi Nick.
I can see a great image here of the geese in the front, here your image seems to split into two images, one for the back geese and one for the front with a blank piece of water in between. I have done a workshop to see what you think about making a panorama with the front geese to stop the eye from wondering from one set of geese to the other and not resting on the whole image. Unfortunatly I cannot get a workshop option on your image to load it up for you to see.
