[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Tawny Eagle - Aquila rapax (Afrikaans name: Roofarend, explaining its predatory nature). After seeing Gerhard's excellent earlier portrait of such an Eagle on TN I thought I'd share my experience of one in the wild. Although caught with its mouth open they seldom call - guess I was just lucky! Can be found in most nature reserves in Central Southern Africa, but scarce outside of it. Can easily be confused with Steppe eagle. Lens focal length 500mm. Exposure compensation +0.7 against a bright sky. Added a touch of myself with Adobe Photoshop and cropped slightly.

Nice action shot Nico. I think the tawny is saying the tree needs water. Looks like there is a disturbance around the head. Maybe from the PP work, otherwise very nice. well done

Hi Nico
Hot, it sure is hot, that is why his mouth is open and he is panting! But he reminds me of the mother-in law, a wagging tongue! Nice compo, but USM a bit too sharp, but thats just my opinion.

Well he probably called his friends to come and look at the strange photographer :)

It is so different taking these shots in the wild, certainly much more difficult. You did well in extracting the detail against the sky.

Very well done and thanks for posting.
