[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Southern Yellowbilled Hornbill (Tockus leucomelas)in the Kalahari of Botswana is a real bum, loafing around lazily in the acasia trees and on the ground in its shade. The don't walk, they hop around on both legs, looking quite funny. They have a definate preference for my wife's scones with strawberry jam and cream. Not waiting to be offered (a definate no-no in the bush to feed animals!) they flew in like fighter pilots and simply robbed us of our early morning delicacy. At one point I had to keep walking while eating as they would come and grab the scone on its way to my already open mouth - leaving me looking rather silly, biting into nothing but fresh Kalahari air!
They grow up to 55 cm and make a deap throated "tok... tok... tok" sound as they jump from place to place.

This is a gorgeous shot of the hornbill, Nico. The details are so sharp and so clear. The markings on him are very dramatic. Stunning colors. Well done and TFS. : )

The surroundings are a little too simple but your subject is adorable and perfectly exposed and you executed a wonderful aviary portrait of the little bugger! TFS, Nico!
