[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We came across two females sunning themselves by an anthill during our trip to Khwai, Moremi Game Reserve in July 2005. After a short while they both got up and walked across the floodplain...
Fortunately for us the road circled round the floodplain and we drove across to the other side waiting for the lionesses to walk towards us which they obligingly did. We followed them as they walked to the river for a drink and then they sat down right by the road on this mound giving us a fantastic sighting of them as they enjoyed the morning sun!!

All this after seeing 8 lions at a giraffe kill the day before!!!

Khwai to me is the best wildlife viewing area within the government reserves and is well worth putting on your list of places to visit!! The Khwai River not only attracts wildlife but also provides a beautiful setting in which to view them...

I used a beanbag as usual on the car window for stability...I have cropped and sharpened the image slightly...

Hi Philip
Excellent shot of a very beautiful lioness. Seems like she was dreaming of a very large impala rump to snack on.
The composition is good although in my opinion the cropping might be a little tight at the top and bottom. Free up the animal a little bit. The colours are superb - very natural. The DOF is great showing lovely details on the animal while the OOF BG totally enhances the animal. The exposure was managed exceptionally well.
Great work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Great shot, Philip!!!

Sleepy lioness?
Well done Philip.

Hi Philip,
Sounds like you had a great day! A nice shot of a Lioness in the wild, something I've never seen. I'm planning to go to Africa so your note is very useful to me. Good detail in the shot, exposure is managed well and colours are arm and rich. Great work.
Regards,
Adrian

You have a couple of very nice shots. I like this one, maybe because of my love for lions. I like the soft focus and the profile.

Philip,
A wonderful pic. Lots of atmosphere.
No need to mention the unsharpness in the foreground...on the contrary I like it.
Wonderful light and a too crazy animal!
Thanks and congrats
Annick
