The purple heron is less common than the gray heron, but inhabits reed beds and swampy areas along the Nile. If you get to Luxor, hire a boat (motorized)and have them take you around the islands both up- and down- stream from the town. The bird photo opportunities there are fantastic. This was taken at sundown where the bird was standing on a bar just off the main channel in the center of the river.

Nicely composed. I like the sun reflecting from the Herons breast. It has a lovely warm glow! The positioning of the Heron behind the reeds is a nice effect. All 'n all a top shot....I like it alot!
