[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took that picture while I was in Hurgada Club Med in Egypt. Back from an exploration dive, I dove under the peer of our dive boat to finish my roll of film when I saw them slowly swimming. Here is the result.

As you can see, you don’t have to go far in the ocean, good subjects are close to home, just by our dive shack ;o)

Zebra batfish.

Platax tiera (Forsskal 1775), the Tiera, Round-Faced or Tail-Fin Batfish, is a fabulously friendly animal, in aquariums and on the reef. In tourists diving areas they greet, follow and wave-off visiting humans. In captivity tiera bats imprint on their "outside" friends, always ready to wag them a hello. At right, aquarium specimens of a five inch tall juvenile and eight inch high semi-adult, and full size adult off Heron Island, Australia showing the characteristic black blotch behind the pelvic fins.

* Close-up is necessary when the housing is used with a spherical dome port in front of a wide angle lens. The spherical dome when in contact with the water, it creates a negative lens. This negative lens creates a virtual image very close to the camera. Unless you have a macro wide angle lens, it is necessary to put a close-up lens so you can focus real close with the wide angle lens.

Hello Alain, I believe these are called Humpback or Zebra Batfish (Platax batavianus) I also believe that these are juveniles with the more thinner elegant body shapes. Nice shot of the group. Paul :)

Excellent work again Alain. I find the techniques employed in underwater photography very interesting. I had to read that last paragraph three times slowly to get it right though..Hey, it's Friday :-)
Not only are the Zebra fish very well detailed & lit but the BG effect is fantastic here. Very well done & Thank You.

Hi Alain. Thanks very much for the technical info. It is great to know about this stuff, even I neved dived in my life. You got a very artistical composition here. The three subjects a excellent and nicely placed, and the BG is superb.
Although I like the soft atmosphere you achieved, I was temptated to exagerate a bit focus to enjoy myself, so I did a fast workshop. Hope you like!

Voici une très belle composition triagulaire. De plus le contrast entre le jaune et le bleu est très beau. L'image est nette le le flash est bien dosé. Le flou de l'arrière plan est superbe. Bravo.
