[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Of seven species of marine turtle, five pantropical ones occur in the Red Sea, two of them are fairly common. The one on the picture is a Eretmochelys imbricata or Hawksbill sea turtle and it’s one of the two common, the other one is Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas).

All are aquatic except for a brief period of time, when - often after long migrations at sea – the females come ashore on the same beach where they were born to lay their eggs, on average every two years. Batches of 50-150 eggs are laid into a hole excavated with the hind flippers.

Sea turtles are carnivores preying on jellyfish, sponges, tunicates, crabs, squid and fish. Only adult Green sea turtle feed on seagrass and algae.

Unfortunate the sea turtles are severely endangered by our hunting for their eggs, meat and shell. Our development of costal areas also kills them since that destroys their nesting sites. You also find hem drowned in huge drift nets actually set to catch tune and mackerels.

This turtle was found when it was eating in a cave in 25 meters depth on the dive site “Gorgonia Garden” since I was diving with guests, I had to let them take their pictures first which led to that when it was my time the turtle was tired of being surrounded by paparazzi and decided to swim away, of course against the current... So while the rest of my group easily drifted along with the current I swam like a maniac trying to keep even pace with a turtle whom has no problem what so ever with currents. Out of the eight pictures I took, I can use two...

The picture is cropped and resized. I’ve also adjusted the levels and added some USM with PS.

This is great. Sea Turtles are awesome and this is a super shot of one. Everytime I see on I think of the Sea Turtles in the movie " Finding Nemo".
