[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a part of a Sawtooth feather star (Oligomentra serripinna). It grows up to 12 cm in diameter and you’ll find it at depths between 5 to 50 meters.

This crinoid is found on gorgonias, stones, fire and soft coral, or sponges where its stationary for days, hardly moving about. Sometimes several individuals sit together on the same animal.

It has 10 arms (actually five, each split in two at the base: other species have 20, 40, or even up to 200) which are extended by night and sometimes day to catch microplankton.

It can vary in coloration. Crinoids are able to swim by undulating their arms.

This picture is taken during a night dive at Shaab Sheer outside Safaga. I’ve converted from RAW and cropped the picture with PS.

Your underwater shots are beautiful Peter.
Reminds me of stuff we had on the reef on Niue Island in the Pacific. I couldn't find Safaga on the map. Is this on the Red Sea ?
