[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The fish on the picture is a Common Lionfish (Pterois volitans). Lionfish are called many things like; Devilfish, Firefish and Dragonfish. They belong to the family Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes). Common Lionfish is the biggest one and can grow up to be 38 cm long. It’s dorsal fin consists of 13 venomous spines. These spines are used as a protective mechanism from predators. The venom is protein based which means that heat assists in the breakdown of the venom. If you are allergic you might die, but otherwise it only hurts like H-LL according to friends of mine ;-)

Picture taken on 25 meters depth at the dive site "Erg Wadi Gimal". Most of the light comes from my external flash a Subtronic Gamma.

Hi Peter,
this is a great picture. The details and colours are very good. Well composed and very good POV.
It looks better on "fotosidan", because the picture is a bit bigger. Now I know how "dykpedda" is;-)

Hey Peter! You have a nice underwater collection! Congratulations! It´s a pity the people from TN doesn´t give the exact value to U/W pictures. I understand that birds and insects are more at their interest here.
Like a diver and u/w photographer, I know about all the dificulties to do this photos.
This Lionfish is great! I like the colours and the perfect exposition! You framed it very well from down to up, showing a pretty clear blue water. That´s perfect! I´m impressed by the digital camera´s results underwater! Wow!
