Thanks again to everyone who’s left a comment on my Previous Post of the Black Kite flying on Lake Nasser it’s really appreciated, and to Ivan & PeterZ for the I.D.

Also apologies for doubling up on the same shot, but this was also taken a minute or two later whilst preparing to go a shore as I’m wiping the sleep from my eyes and saying to myself “wake-up mate” your in Egypt sailing Lake Nasser and there birds out their, I kid you not :0)

The Black Kite is a highly successful and abundant raptor which is omnivorous and has developed a commensally relationship with man.

It is a gregarious bird and is probably the most successful and numerous birds of prey in the world. Its diet is extremely varied even including some fruit (in particular the fruit of the oil palm). It will scavenge for offal and other animal remains, while in some areas fish form an important part of its diet.

It will also kill small mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians - this prey is taken from the ground. In the air it will take and eat large insects. Despite its success its numbers have declined in some areas (particularly in Europe) in part as a result of poisoning and the use of pesticides.

Details, Shot Raw and converted to Jpeg, cropped slightly and reduced in size, re-sharpened for posting.

Hello Rick,
You ceratainly had a field day with these Black Kites. A great capture again frozen in a fine in-flight pose with pretty good sharpness.
Well done and TFS!

Hi Rick

A lovely pose, the slight blur gives a good impression of speed.

Hi Rick,
this photo has a mellow warm glow to it and a great looking dynamic action that is something I like to see.Birds in flight doing just that are such a wonder of nature and even though we have airplanes;I still would love to be a bird even if only for one day and know true flight and have the best eye sight known in the animal kingdom. The action of this shot is a marvel and the only thing that could make this better is if the bird had been closer to you when you took the photo, but we both know that isn't how the animals play our photography game as they do just what they want and I for one am glad they live as they please.A good photo and thank you for giving us a chance to see it.Winter is nigh here where I live and lucky you get to have summer soon. Bob

Hi Richard,
No wonder you were missing from TN for some time, having a holiday in Egypt. From the look of your pictures from there, it appears you had a wonderful time.
I will presently go to your previous picture, but let me tell you that this is a marvellous capture of a Black Kite in flight. The details on the bird are impressive. Its head it turned at an angle that suggests a vigilant eye.
Obviously, you were at a convenient vantage point.
Thanks and regards.
Ram

Another nice inflight capture of this kite Richard.
Interesting pose & POV, the early morning light worked well here to light up the bird..Perhaps a bit faster s-speed, 1/200th for an inflight is pushing it a bit IMHO.
Well done,
Howard

Hello Rick,
Another very fine capture of the Black Kite tumbling about in the sunshine. It looks as if the eyes are focussed on something well below!
TFS and cheers, Ulla
