An adult male gelada (Theropithecus gelada) making a threat-glare by flashing the pink skin under his eyebrows in the direction of his intended conspecific recipient. Geladas are highly social primates and as such, communicate constantly through various modalities. Well known for their large vocal repitoir, these alpine primates are equally expressive with body gestures and facial expressions. This type of 'agonistic' expression is the initial step of an escalating series of messages before, at last resort, a full blown fight will erupt. Serious fights between adult males can have deadly consequences.
What a stunning baboon, I sure don't want to be near him when he is looking like this. It's a stunning clear photo with great detail and color. Very well done and thanks for sharing.
Great portrait of this Gelada baboon. Fantastic expression. You made a fantastic study of these animals. I've studied all your photos before I visited them in Ethiopia. I hope you've seen my photos too.
Great sharpness and beautiful natural colours in a good composition.
