Euriphene barombina.
No common name.
A Nymphalid.
Genus Euriphene typically found in dark wet forests, some rarely seen.
Although said to be fairly common in Bobiri, this is the only one I found and was present only briefly.
This male was photographed in Bobiri Nat. Reserve Ghana in deep dark forest.
Sexually dimorphic, the female is brown/orange and has a white stripe.
One of my favourite Ghana butterlies, beautiful colour, markings and shape. |

Ni Mike,
Interesting subject. Reminiscent of Elymnias species from Asia, and seemingly filling the same niche in Africa. I'm especially reminded of E. hypermnestra. Good POV for the wing colouration, very sharp, good DOF. Thanks.

Another interesting Ghanian species, I can just imagine your "deep dark forest". Thanks so much for sharing and don't worry too much about the lack of points (look at the number of views as well), people are interested and this is a site wher you will make friends for life if you hang around for a while.
Technically it would help if you posted the speed and f stop and whether you used fill flash, all options are up to you though.
Its an attractive species and good that you posted a beautiful male, though I'm sur ethe females look good to these guys :).
Just had a quick look at your gallery and there's a few there i've missed that look quite good, so I'll check them out tomorrow.
Keep up the good work, we donh't see much fom southwestern Africa.
