Oxylides faunus.
Common false head butterfly.
A Lycaenid.
This specimen photographed in Bobiri Nat. reserve, Ghana in the forest.
The bfly turns around on landing to face away from predators presenting its multi tails and eye spots, the " false head". It is often attacked from this end and is able therefore to survive attack by birds etc.
The upper surface is a bright blue in the male.
The continuous brown band across both wings is diagnostic. |

Another interesting guy from Ghana; very attractive, love the b&w banded legs and all those tails. Great sharpness and detail. Bcakground is a bit noisy though. You could easily clean it up in Neat Image if you wanted (see workshop).
