| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Guineafowl butterfly.
Hamanumida daedalus.
A Nymphalid.
Only slighty sexual dimorphism.
Found in Africa in forest and open savannah. Low flying.
Difficult to approach. Flies off short distances as one approaches and then lands again.
It is obvious where the common name derives. No possibility of confusion with any other species.
This specimen was photographed after a prolonged chase in Bobiri National Reserve in Ghana. |

Hi Mike,
the butterfly itself is a bit out of focus, but the composition is good and seen the difficulty
of appoaching this kind, you did a good job. A species not oft seen on TN
TFS
Hi Mike,
I'm glad your chase was successful in the end. This looks similar to females of Lexias from SE Asia, as you pictured from Vietnam, I think. Nice to see the niche filled in Africa by something similar. A pretty good shot under difficult circumstances, just a little short of focus around the edges, but you knew that. Thanks.
Alan
