Epitolina dispar.
No common name.
A Lycaenid...
Wholly afrotropical genus of butterflies the Liptenids.
A fairly common forest sps. in Ghana, however this is the only one I saw in 2 weeks.
Liptenids are an unusual and very interesting genus that perches on bare twigs and feeds on lichen. Slow fliers.
Open and close wings slowly.
This one photographed in forest in Antikwaa in Ghana.
Thanks to Szabolcs Safian ( founder of the Butterfly conservation society of Ghana) for invaluable help with ID. |

Hi Mike,
Even though some might find this butterfly a bit dull, it is fascinating for me. You have captured it remarkably well, with a lot of detail. But I can see why it might be hard to identify, if all the genus has this plain underside. Thanks a lot.
