Ardea Goliath
Its large size should be diagnostic. Most closely resembles the Purple Heron but the latter has a black crown and black throat stripes and is very much smaller. At long range can be distinguished from Grey Heron by its rufous head and neck. Habitat : Freshwater dams, lakes, and sometimes estuaries. Thinly distributed in the north and east, but absent from the west and south. Usually solitary or in pair. |

What a fantastic bird! I would love to see one of these! The photo is a bit blurry and I can't really see the eyes so well. Thanks for letting me get a look at this "Giant"!
