in a group..deciding what to do next?
This is a huge, unmissable and unmistakable stork. Anywhere there are people you will find groups of Marabou. They are scavengers and can be found around refuse dumps as well as with vultures around carcasses. However they don't rely solely on scavenging, they will catch small rodents and reptiles and have even been known to pick swallows out of the air! Although they have to class as one of the uglier (if not ugliest) of Kenyan birds, airborne they are superb flyers, soaring at high altitude across the plains. |

Hi Geof
Nice capture of the tea party for the ugly and the weird. You are right to say they have no competition in the ugly category. They win loose hands every time.
Yet, they are a very important part of the ecology and assist in the cleaning out process to ensure there is no rotten meat lying around breeding out pests.
Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

geof,
I simply cannot understand this. 439 viewers and only 4
points for this GREAT, GREAT register.
Your notes too, though concise, are educative.
The register of the "dirty" water, the dried grasses
on one bank, the green on the other have been contrasted perfectly. Birds well focused & presented.
Best regards, Mario.
Hi Geoff
Looks like you had difficult conditions for this shot with harsh light. You have managed it well. What a great site, but, man are they ugly. :-)
