[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This lion was photographed in the Nakuru National Park in Kenya earlier this year. He was about 20m from our 4x4. Until this shot he had been scratching and just lounging around. Two giraffes had just come into view about a mile away and this had caught his atention. To the best of my knowledge he didn't go off hunting them as we hung around for some time taking photo's and didn't see him leave. On the other side of our car was the pride of females and juveniles again just lying around and lazing.

There had been a drought for several months and there were many dead animals lying around but on this day the weather was dull and overcast and before we had got out of the park the rains had started and the roads and tracks were flooded.

Hi Phil,
lovely portrait of this African Male Lion,
looks like a old fella
good framing :)
20m wow must have been some experience :D
Cheers,
Vishal Sabharwal

Nice image. He looks somewhat starved and not too happy about it. Good color and detail. Perhaps a bit too centered. Also looks like a couple of "dust bunnies" on your sensor upper left (easily removed with your "healing " tool in PS.)

Excellent shot with great quality

What a beauty, Phil.
A rather unusual, but impressive pose.
Love the direct eye contact.
Colors of the head and mane are beautiful.
Great composition.
I would have been tempted to clone out that dark spot to the upper right of the head as it does draw my eyes away from the lion.
Great shot.
TFS. : )

Hi Phil

Very nice work. Love the worn face. Good colours. Well done.

Hi Phil,

Great image just for the look caught on the eye of the lion. The photo has also other features as well-balanced lighting, clear details and attractive composition. Really splendid.

WEll Done & TFS.

Hi Phil,
A lovely portrait of this majestic creature. The details of its mane and face are very good and I like its pose. The DOF has made the subject stand out very well and there is a clear devision between FG and BG.Very good and TFS.
