[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This Crowned Plover - Vanellus c. coronatus, was photographed in Naivasha Kenya and was one of a pair that frequented the rough grass in front of the house I was staying in.

Absent from the coastal lowlands the crowned plover has a distribution up to 3000m and occupies dried grasslands and savannah. It is a widespread and common East African resident which is most often encountered singly or in pairs. This pair were faithful to an area of dried grassland within a 70 acre fenced compound and this enabled me to gain their confidence and get close to them over a period of a couple of days. The photo was taken from about 15m as the bird ran parallell to the path I was on.

The camera was hand held at iso 100 with the lens at 400mm.

Hi Phil,
the Vanellus family is a fantastic family. Also this species is beautiful. Well captured from a low POV. The colours look natural.

Beautiful picture of a beautiful bird. I love the position you caught him in. He is a real fashionplate with the red legs and upper beak. TYFS.

Hi Phil,
This is an excellent capture of this plover, sharp, well-composed and with good lighting.
I like the walking action!
TFS, regards, Ivan

Phil,
Nice wildlife shot.
Probably a silly question and I don't know a lot of snake. But I read the most common snake in Africa is a viper. Aren't you running a bite risk when walking, running, laying..working in the grass or so...?
Once again. Great shot!
TFS
