Defassa Waterbuck
(Kobus ellipsiprymnus defassa)
it is a subspecie of the waterbuck in which the ring on the rump is solid white.

PER I MIEI 'COLLEGHI' MARIO E ANGELO: QUESTO E' UN ESEMPIO DI FOTO IMPASTATA CON LO SFONDO, I COLORI DEI SOGGETTI PRINCIPALI SI CONFONDONO CON QUELLI DELL'AMBIENTE DA CUI NON RIESCONO A 'USCIRE' A CAUSA DI UN TEMPO DI ESPOSIZIONE TROPPO ELEVATO (O APERTURA PICCOLA). E' BELLO AVERE UNA PIATTAFORMA COME TN SU CUI CONFRONTARSI E SCAMBIARSI IDEE E PUNTI DI VISTA SU UNA PASSIONE COMUNE, C'E' SEMPRE UN MOLTO DA IMPARARE...
GRAZIE E CIAO, ANDREA

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Artiodactyla
Family: Bovidae
Genus: Kobus

The Waterbuck is an antelope found in Western, Central Africa, East Africa and Southern Africa.

Waterbuck stand 190 to 210 centimetres at the shoulder and weigh from 160 to 240 kilograms. They are also very heavy. Their coats are reddish brown in colour and become progressively darker with age; they also have a white 'bib' under their throats and a white ring on their rumps surrounding their tails. The long spiral structured horns sweep back and up, they are found only in males.

Waterbuck are found in scrub and savannah areas near water where they eat grass. Despite their name it seems that Waterbuck do not like to enter the water. Waterbuck are diurnal. Females gather in herds of between two and six hundred individuals. Males keep territories of around three hundred acres (1.2 km²) during their prime. They usually lose their territories before the age of ten.

Hi Andrea,
An excellent shot on this mother and baby. Catching them in the shade really allowed for nice color saturation and nice contrast without any harsh light. Tack sharp with a great natural setting.
Nice shot!

Andrea,
This an amazing picture taking into account that there is har1sch light in the background. The exposure in the shade is spot-on. TFS.

Hello Andrea,
Great shot, great moment to capture. Nice pose from the pair and good direct eye contact from the little one. Great exposure, excellent details and colours and a great job on the scan.

Good luck tomorrow. Forza Azzurri!!
Adrian

Great image, Andrea! The animals with those pretty rings around their rumps are looking so beautiful in their natural habitat, though I notice that the shrubbery on the ground is burnt out by fire. Or am I seeing things?!
Take care and have a nice weekend.
