Unromantically named after the distance from Sesriem Canyon, Dune 45 is the most accessible dune to climb in this vast sea of red sand that covers over 32,000 square kilometers of western Namibia. This enormous expanse of dunes stretches from the southern Khoichab River to the northern Kuiseb River.
It is thought that the sand originated in the Kalahari Desert up to five million years ago and was swept down to Sossusvlei by the Orange River. Your struggle to the top is worth every step, views of the surrounding desert are spectacular. You may be lucky enough to see Oryx or Ostriches roaming across the sand below.

Wonderful colourful landscape with great DOF. A bit more space to the right would have given the complete arc leading from bottom right to the left (FG), further to the trees in the MG, and then sweeps across to the right into the distance finally leading to that wind-swept top of the dune. Excellent 3D effect as is. The sand blown in the wind adds dynamic. A piece of art.

Gabi

Hello Aivar,
I admire this picture a lot. There's a perfect composition with this huge dune and the lone tree, apparently waiting for it's end. Great warm light that enhance the shapes and colours. Overall - one of my favourites :-)
Best greetings,
Michal

I love desert dunes and I've this one on TE and TN before.
Nice contrast with the blue sky and the wisp of sand blowing off the top. The trees add good scale.

Hi

I love Namibia and the desert (leaving for Botswana's desert on Saturday). Great shot of the footprints up the dune. The composition is great and the two dry thorntrees are great too.

Excellent!

Excellent picture. The composition is extremely strong and the warm light coming from the righthandside is beautiful. I also like the sand which is blown away from the top. Marvelous. You are lucky to have seen this in real life. TFS!

Pieter

Bonjour Aivar,
Une très belle image bien composée et avec de jolies couleurs. Je suis sensible à la Namibie car j'y vais en juin. J'espère y faire également de bonnes prises. Merci pour le partage et les commentaires. Gérard

It's a very good job, this dune are so beautiful for phototgraphy. I was going in Namibia in years 2003 and this region are very nice for travel. I'm happy, the little tree are ever visible, so the dune dont move to fast !

Congratulation
Christophe
