I was looking at that plant, the insect is perched on and noticed a strange 'color'...
Then I saw this big grasshopper. At least I believe it is a grasshopper. Never saw such a big and colorful one before. And it didn't move at all.
You can see very well the antennae, compound eye, mouth, thorax, wing, femur, spiracle, claw and anus.
I couldn't find the exact specie.

Grasshopper
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grasshoppers are insects of the suborder Caelifera in the order Orthoptera. To distinguish them from bush crickets or katydids, they are sometimes referred to as short-horned grasshoppers. Species that change colour and behaviour at high population densities are called locusts.

Hello Annick,
you show an interesting grasshopper with extraordinary colours and surface structures.
It looks similar to species of the genus Zonocerus. However, I cannot give a clear identification.
The specimen is presented with excellent sharpness and apparently with its natural colours.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Annick,
A great capture of a spectacular grasshopper. I can't help with the ID but the swollen abdomen suggests it is a female.
The lighting and sharpness are superb and it shows well against the OOF natural BG from a fine POV.
TFS this beauty and my best wishes for the festive season and a successful happy 2009!
Ivan

Hi Annick

Very interesting subject from you, my friend!
I rarely see you shooting macros, but judging after this, you seem to be just as great at it as well :)
Very interesting and cool subject here - the texture on his outer-skeleton and the vibrant colors on the entire body are fantastic and the sharpness is also impeccable despite your quite long focal distance.
Great job overall!

Bravo, TFS and Happy Holidays!
Horia

Hallo Annick,
Prachtige compositie.
Fijne kerstdagen,
Peter

Hi Annick,
I didn't even know you went to Namibia, I am so lost in work lately, I should check out TN more often... I am sure you had a great time there and have lots of good photos now.
I am not very keen on grasshoppers but this one is lovely. Very good focus, sharpness, details, patterns and colors.
And yes, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a great 200NINE :o)
TFS
All the best,
Selen

Hello Annick.
A very good clear shot of what looks like some kind of locust.
Excellent exposure with very good detail and natural colour.
I hope you find out what it is.
Great stuff!
Cheers
Steve

Hi Annick,
So since you've been back I've seen a lot of wonderful images from you..
You know I'm lookin'..
Thought I should break the "ice" and comment on a bug anyway :)
It seems the 400mm is a macro, landscape, and all utility lens, in the hands of a master :)
Beautiful image, very nice!
Happy New Year,
Howard
