[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Thank you very much for your interesting critiques and comments yesterday..
Today's photo is some kind of beach portrait of the same seal specie I uploaded in the previous posts. The name is different but could be interpreted as more precise...

However I prefer the name Brown Fur Seal.
About the name discussion I refer to yesterday's post.

Maybe it's time for a physical description. Well actually wikipedia's discription is quite general as the Brown Fur Seal is described as the Cape Fur Seal, South African Fur Seal and the Australian Fur Seal. I'm a bit puzzled about wikipedia's written material here.

From wikipedia...
Physical description

The Brown Fur Seal has a large broad head and a pointed snout. Males are brown to dark gray with a darker mane and a light underside. They grow up to 2.2m (7ft) and weigh around 200-360 kg (440-800lb). Females are gray to light brown with a dark underside and light throat. They grow up to 1.7m (5ft) and weigh on average 120kg (260lbs). Pups are black at birth but turn gray with a pale throat after molting.

Hi annick. What a pose from the Seal . It like it wants its picture taken . You have captured the shine on the wet skin so well. TFS.
Nick..

Hi Annick, wonderful and lovely capture of this beauty.
TFS and cheers,
Bayram

Hallo Annick,

Quite uneasy to shoot correctly this black fur annick, but the hues on the fur are successfully caught. No underexpo on the fur, nor overex in the wave, i'm impressed but not surprised

Hi Annick,
another fab shot of a Seal.
Very good pose.
Great sharpness.
I like how you've frozen the water.

Very well done,
Joe

Hi Annick,
I have to agree with you.
Sometimes the descriptions one reads in books and in articles don't seem to fit the species.
I guess that when wet like this it is always harder to see the base colours of the fur etc.
It does look quite a different creature like this.
Another fantastic shot too by the way.
I posted a New Zealand (or Southern or Australasian) Fur Seal for you yesterday.
Check it out when you get time.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Annick,
What a beauty! And the splashing water is just terrific. Very dynamic pic.
The animal is not so common and the pose is brilliant.

Hi Annick

I really like this action shot - you have really captued the essence here.

Wiki is often very inaccurate - for instance many of the entries on geomorphological processes are inaccurate. This species does have several names but I am sure this in not the same species as the Autralian.

Hello Annick,

What a fine photo you have made with this seal. The animal has a very good pose and the curves of its body are in contrast with the pattern of the wave. The image is very dinamic and viewer expect the wave to cover the seal. It is the animals fur that you have rendered so well despite the darck color.

Congratulations,
Cristian

Hello Annick,
A very nicely timed capture of this beautiful dark Fur Seal! Excellent sharpness and fine colours. I like the froth and splashes of water surrounding it.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hello Annick

This is a splendid action shot, the image implies the return to the water and the surf is well captured.
Excellent composition and presentation.
The details are sharp and well focused as usual.
Great job.
Looks like you had ample opportunities to capture these guys.

A beautiful shot here of this South African Fur Seal. Wonderfully framed and captured with a stunning pose, you have captured a lot of feeling for the beauty and wildness of the sea, too! Really a great shot.
