[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Desert Elephant is a bit of a myth.
Was taken at drive and photo day #5: Uis (White Lady)-Khorixas.
Later on at day #9 I was staying just outside Etosha at the Frans Indongo Lodge. And there I read an article in a Namibian wildlife magazine about the Desert Elephant and its myth:

Actually this article said this elephant is physiologically and genealogically the same species as the African elephant.

They say it has longer legs but in fact their body is slightly different due to the specific desert vegetation. Compare it to a diet. So the legs just appear longer...

Plus its foot is bigger in size. It's adapted to the desert. I had to flatten my 4W tires to reach a pressure of 160 kPa in the desert. Something like that...

This is a bull 'in heat'. These fellows are often alone and quite unpredictable..

Hello Annick,
A fine one of a bull Desert Elephant: the feet do look rather larger. I like the frontal POV, the composition and the light management.

Hi Annick

I had always thought that there could be very little, if any, real difference - and you have confirmed it. We didn't see them in October - but missed them by very little. Anyway - an excellent image - great pose and exposure control.

Looks like you were about to be atacked by a raging bull elephant. You really captured that moment of speed and agression.
The details and light are very beautiful and the chose DOF made the elephant stand out perfectly.

A great close up look at this young bull in heat. I guess you would have been pretty wary while shooting this one.
He's definitely aware of you.

I have heard how unpredictable these bulls can be, especially 'in heat'.
You wouldn't want to be too close to it Annick.
I like his pose here; it is as if he is swaying a little.
