Red-veined Dropwing (Trithemis arteriosa) Or T. Kirbyi, almost impossible for me to tell the difference.

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THE LARGER VIEW

Medium sized dragonfly, sledner, with distinguishing black marks at the tip of thin abdomen. Adult males are red-bodied with red leading wing veins.

They settle with there wings downwards and forwards from which short forays are made to persue intruders.

They are common in a variety of vegetation types and across a broad range that includes all of Africa.

I was extatic when this dragon did not fly away when I crept closer. I used my beanbag to shoot from. The moment I had to put on my tubes to get closer within the minimum focus distance he flew and immdeiatley came back and sat even closer to me. This is the reason I could post this LP. He even caught a fly while I was waiting and returned to the same spot. Maybe I'll post the photo of him with the fly later. The fly was small and he ate it with one go. GULP! gone! Amazing I loved spending time with this critter. I saw he lost his "foot" on the one leg.

Great one Gerhard, I'm so pleased you've got this - it's your best Dragonfly yet... I'm happy that you got so excited about it!

Great work, well done.

A lot of things must be seen in Large format, definately this is one of them. Insects, as fungi and other vegetal textures have to be seen like this. I restrict myself a lot becaouse of the limit.
Thanks for choosing this one, very impressing with all that amount of red, and detail.

Excellent....just excellent!
A great LP view with loads of detail and great DoF.
Very well done.

The large version is fantastic, so much sharp detail and excellent DOF. Clearly the 300D and teh Tamron lens is an amazing weapon. An amazing capture, TFS.

With luck and a beanbag you can shoot F-16 at slow speed and still come away with a tack sharp capture ;-) Great detail on this chap - I like the angle where you can see the neck - DOF used to the best effect. I think you've been a bit too hard on the LP with the sharpening tool, there are haloes around him.

Wow! Gerhard this is absolutely fabulous! You really have mastered the art of macro. This is very impressive, well done.
