Southern Rock Agama
Agama atra atra

Information recarding this specific species are very limited. I know that it is endemic to South Africa and some other stats like size and colors. I have also read that the females have blueish colors in the facial area. So this is a female? I decided to go for the easy way and give some info on the family.

Agamas or Agamids are the Agamidae family of lizards, containing more than 300 species in Africa, Asia, Australia, and a few in Southern Europe. They are very similar to the American sister group of iguanas. Agamas are active during the day. Many species are perfectly adapted to a life in hot deserts, while others live in the trees of tropical rainforests.

Agamas have well-developed, strong legs. Their tails can't be shed and regenerated like those of some other lizard groups. Some agama species are able to change their colours.

This species have been seen in groups of more than 100. The males changes color when breeding.

The actual composition was rotated 90deg clockwise as this critter faced up-side down on a tree. I wonder if the original compo would have been better?

Hope you like it

Hi Gerhard, lovely shot. I have a picture of one with a vrey blue head - I found it at Walter Sissolu Botanical Gardens, I'll post it soon!

Very nice composition - I think I prefer it like this and the details are great.

Hi Gerhard,
I like the POV, excellent composition,
very good focus and DOF, nice details and colours.
Very well done!

Hi Gerhard

Very nice post of an interesting species since we don't have these in Denmark. Colours look very nice, Excellent sharpness and details as well as the pov. I especially like the pose - looks like he/she is more curious than afraid.

Hi Gerhard!
Looks like a top-model before your lens :-)
Wonderful pose and fantastic colours.

Hi Gerhard,
An excellent shot on this lizard. Due to the good composition, I think it would look good in the portrait framing as you shot it. The colors and textures look great. Very sharp, with perfect DOF. He is well seperated from the good OOF backround.

Hi Gerhard!

To me it looks innocent and fragile :-) Perfect composition and colours. I like brown scales on reptile's body. Very good work!

Very sharp details and good light on this unusual lizard, Gerhard. Too bad we cannot see the whole tail. Was it very long? TFS. : )

Hi Gerhard,
this is a great shot with very good details and POV.
The DOF is also very good, the lizzard stands out well from the BG. I like the composition and colours too.
Excellent work, my friend.

Very nice photo of this strange lizzard. Good POV (altough I keep looking for where the tail ends ...)

Regards, Petru

Hi Gerhard!

Seems a long time since I saw some new picture from you... It may be me working to much in camera shop during Chrismas time.
Good shot, sharpness and exposure are excellent. Lovely shallow DOF. That Sigma 150mm is in my view as soon as I get a DSLR.
Excellent work and TFS.

Great closeup Gerhard!
The rotation works well.
POV, DOF, all the rest... simply superb!
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Gerhard

You have done a great job here. Nicely composed. Good colours and POV. Sharpness and detail are spot on. Well done. TFS.

Like it ... cute little reptilian.

Nicce capture. Good exposure and sharpness.

Very nice close up macro of this cool lizard, the detail are well defined all with a very nice soft background. :)

Excellent capture Gerhard. I think I like it in the horizontal myself. Perfect light & color with the FG nicely blurred and the BG isolating as well as complimenting the subject very well. I did a workshop to try & improve your shot. Well done!

I like this one! The rotated Composition is fine. I have had similar problems when taking pics of a Blue Headed Tree Agama in Skukuza. Great Macro pic that shows great detail also. Well Done. Sheriff
