Conchyloctenia punctata (Spotted tortoise beetle)

Tortoise beetles, of the genus Aspidomorpha, often attract attention because of their striking shape and colour. They belong to the subfamily Cassidinae, a part of the large family Chrysomelidae (leaf or plant beetles)

These oblong-oval beetles are basically gold in color with various black and/or red markings depending upon species, but the Spotted tortoise beetle can be easily distinguished from them by being oval not round and by having yellow and black markings on the elytra rather than the gold colouring found in the other species.

Slightly flattened and squared at the shoulders, tortoise beetles' bodies are somewhat shell-like in appearance. Body margins extend in a roof-like manner over much of the head and legs. Most species are 5 to 8 mm long.

This fellow was busy investigating the inside of a daylily when I spotted him.

Technical: cropped a small amount, sharpened and resized.

Nice capture.Color and detail are excellent!! Good work. Regards.

What a very beautiful macro you are showing us here Irmgard.
The most wonderful colors of the flower do pop of my screen right away.
Great clarity in that lovely small beetle with beautiul details.
Composition and use of depth of field are excellent.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Harry

Hi Irmgard.
Excellent macro. Love the colours throughout the image and the beetle sitting over on the right of the frame and not placed in the centre. Composition is great with the eye being led up into the centre of the flower where there the eye rests on the beetle which is captured beautifully, pin sharp, great detail.
Wonderful

Dear Irmgard!
I like this picture because of the following things:

1. composition - simply great! The beetle just inside so beauty flower :>

2. colouration - really rather unicoloured picture but with different tones, and thanks to them it is a very artistic photo

3. sharpness and DOF - just very good!

4. POV - "deep" and beauty

5. note - interesting and informative :)

TFS and best withes from Lodz,
Radomir

Hallo Irmgard
What a brilliant shot. A beautiful macro with excellent sharpness, and most delightful view. The details of the tortoise beetle are just eye-catching. The colour and texture of the flower is also great. A great photo – you being at the right spot at the right time. A most appealing, bright and sunny sight. You have used the light well, emphasizing the little beetle well within the flower. Thanks for sharing. This one was much appreciated.
Kind regards
Anna
