[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I know that non of these pictures in this composition are technically very good but bear with me. It was particularly difficult to take the pictures of the owls because they were in a dark abandoned grain silo, and I did not want to disturb them by using a flash hence the grainyness.
The adults lay eggs which take roughly one month to hatch, and the fledlings will take a further two months before leaving the nest. The fledglings in the Pic (bottom left) huddle together to keep warm. their down feathers also help. Note that there are actually four chick in the photo and not only two, showing how tightly they bunch together. The amount of broods that an adult pair can have in a year is dependent on the prey availibility of that season. The owl will regurgitate a pellet of undigestable matter, often on top of a termite mound, as in the picture. A disection of such pellets is quite interestin as well. I attached a picture of the contents of on pellet. This contained the remains of at least 4 bats, the picture shows their skulls.
If you aren't amazed by the images I hope that they would at least teach you something about this cool bird of prey.
