Masked weaver (Ploceus intermedius)
These birds are nifty craftsmen, or rather craftsbirds, they build their nests on the tip of long thin branches and usually over ponds, to make it as difficult as possibly can for any predatory snakes and reptiles to reach their nests. Once the male has completed the nest it is time for the female to come and visit and inspect the nest and if she is not 100% satisfied with his workmanship she will destroy the nest and he has to start again!
While on holiday in South Africa we visited the botanical gardens in Pretoria. I saw this bird building his nest and I tried capturing him, out of about 40 shots this was the only 1 worth looking at! This was my first attempt at capturing birds in flight and I missed 39 of them!
