Unknown Weaver / Chow for now

Unfortunately I cannot identify this bird and would rather not take guesses to what it is. My presumption is that it is some kind of weaver but there are so many different kinds of these birds. It would also be wrong of me, just to pinpoint and name it just for the sake of it. Just as I thought I had the right identification, there was some feature that does not match with the particular bird's description or features. If anybody out there could assist me with the correct ID it would be highly appreciated.

If however this is a weaver I would like the share the following overall view about this specie with you. If it is not a weaver, you've just got some information for mahala. How about that?

The Ploceidae, or Weavers, are small passerine birds related to the finches. These birds are divided into various groups. The males of many species are brightly coloured, usually in red or yellow and black, some species show variation in colour only in the breeding season.

Weaver birds, also known as weaver finches, get their name because of their elaborately woven nests (the most elaborate of any birds), though some are notable for their selective parasitic nesting habits. The nests vary in size, shape, material used, and construction techniques from species to species. Materials used for building nests include fine leaf-fibers, grass, and twigs. Building Engineer At Work Many species weave very fine nests using thin strands of leaf fiber, though some, like the buffalo-weavers, form massive untidy stick nests in their colonies, which may have spherical woven nests within. The sparrow weavers of Africa build apartment-house nests, in which 100-300 pairs have separate flask-shaped chambers entered by tubes at the bottom. Most species weave nests that have narrow entrances, facing downward.

The weavers are gregarious birds which often breed colonially. The birds build their nests together for protection, often several to a branch. Usually the male birds weave the nests and use them as a form of display to lure prospective females. Source

Today's posting will be the last for a while as I will be very busy these forthcoming weeks. I have 2 important projects to complete in a nick of time. I will however pop in now and again if time allows or if I have a gap at work.

My 1st project is to arrange our youngest son Werner's wedding ceremony with Naomi. It will be a very personal and small function, but lack of time to arrange everything is a bit of a problem. Due to unhappy circumstances they could not get married as they planned to do in December 2008 and when they found one another again after almost a year there was no stopping them. They plan to get married on the 9th May in the Umfolozi birdpark just outside our hometown. I can only foresee that it will turn out to be a special day, with all the sounds of birds chirping and singing in the background. Is there not a saying: "Love conquers all".

My 2nd project is to complete a recipebook, especially for Mothersday, which is celebrated on the 11th here in South Africa. I have had numerous requests to create something real special for the Afrikaans-speaking ladies all over the country, and although the compilation is in my mother tongue, plenty of English people have also contacted me. My books are not just a bunch of recipes thrown together just for the sake of it. My books are done with pride and love, adding all kinds of inserts, poems and sweet "nitty grities" about the subject. As per my intropage, the compilation of recipe books is my actual hobby.

So I thought I'd leave you with this image filled with a rainbow of colours. In my mind eye, I see lots of joy, happiness, laughter and bliss written all over it. All these good things are my wish to you all, until my next posting, sometime in the middle of May. So chow for now and I hope you enjoyed looking at this photo as much as I took pleasure in taking it.

Hello Anna,
This beautiful bird of yours has very similar colouration and look to our native Bellbird, which has the most gorgeous song.
I love that you've captured it on this Bird Of Paradise plant....very fitting.
There certainly is a 'rainbow' of colour here.
Cheers & TFS
Steve
PS Good luck with the wedding & the recipe book, and give my best wishes to Loot.

Hi Anna,

I can't help with the ID of this bird posed so beautifully on the Bird of Paradise. They are competing with each other to be the star of this picture. Colors, setting and composition are awesome.

Hello Anna,
A fine capture of a female Cape Weaver (Ploceus capensis) taken from a fine POV and nicely composed in the Strelitzia flower and well seen against the busy, but OOF natural BG.
It can be distinguished from the females of other weaver species by the longer heaver bill. The males of this species have pale eyes.
I hope your projects go well and look forward to seeing you back when the dust has settled!
Thanks,
Ivan

Hi Anna.
I also cannot identify the bird, However, I cannot even amazing plants surrounding the bird. Despite the busy scenery shot is looked so naturally and nicely. Magnification ratio is wonderful and gives the shot some charm. I am impressed with excellent sharpness of the main subject including fine leaves on a FG and nice blurriness of the BG. It is not so easy having so many objects in the frame. Excellent post. My kind regards.
Alexei.

Hello Anna,

Very nice picture of this unknown bird (at least for me). The exposition is well mastered and the colors looks very natural. I would have like to have a more blurry bg but with an aperture of f4.5 I suspect that your camera is a bridge with a small sensor. Am I right?

Thank you very much for sharing :-)

Michel

PS. Bridge are wonderful for macro with their long depth of field. I'm still using my bridge Panasonic FZ-20 for insects :-)

Hello Anna,
a very beatiful picture, excellent POV, very good sharpness and bright colours, i like this very nice composition very rich in details but well balanced, very well done.

Merhaba Dostum Anna,
Ülkemizde "Dokumacı kuş" adıyla bilinen bu güzel kuşu renk cümbüşü içerisinde oldukça başarılı kaydetmişsin. Rengarenk çiçekli bir bitkinin üzerinde kuşun gözlerindeki parlaklığı ve görünen tüm detayları kusursuzca çekmeyi başarmışsın. Emeğine sağlık. Yeni karelerde görüşmek dileği ile.
Selamlar.
