A new bird for me, and what a nice one, it's even an original one. Many thanks for the informative notes too. I like the light in the background and the darker branch where the bird is standing. Coucal is a great name for a bird and you are very lucky to live close by a reserve in South Africa! A dream of many kids when I was young, I wanted to become like Daktari. Thank you for this picture, I really like it,

I have been informed that FL300mm for this lens will be soft, so you should try to avoid that long zoom end. The focus is a bit blur for this one but otherwise it is a great shot of the bird nicely positioned with superb bokeh effect of the BG. Perhaps just a crop of the tail.

Hi Chris,

You have framed this bird really well. I like the perch on that diagonal branch with fine texture and details. The exposure of the plumage is so vivid and the eye is in great focus. You have managed the DoF really well in isolating the subject in this superb tall frame capture.

Pragtige voëls die nê? en nie sommer dat mens hulle kry om so stil te sit nie. Hulle is mos maar skaam en skugter. Ek kon darem een afneem wat in die voëlbad by my slaapkamer venster kom water drink het. Alhoewel die foto aan die bokant nie heeltemal in fokus is nie, kan mens die duidelike rooi van die oog mooi sien. Die detail wat jy egter op die vere vasgevang het is mooi duidelik sigbaar. 'n Pragtige tonneel van die pragvoël op 'n boomstomp. Dankie vir jou deelname. Vriendelike groete soos altyd.
