Le nid du tisserin gendarme est souvent suspendu à un arbre bas au-dessus de l'eau douce. Cette espèce aime les grands arbres et peut aussi occuper plusieurs arbres voisins. Le mâle construit le nid. Celui-ci est arrondi, légèrement en forme d'oignon, avec une extension courte vers le bas qui sert d'entrée.
Le nid est grossièrement tissé par le mâle, avec des herbes, des morceaux de feuilles de bananiers et de palmiers. Le tisserin gendarme forme de plus grandes colonies que les autres espèces, et de nombreux nids peuvent être placés très près les uns des autres. Parfois, les nids peuvent être tissés et reliés ensemble (oiseaux.net)
