Wild dog - Lycaon pictus
This picture was taken at Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. The centre contributes to the conservation of endangered species and the rehabilitation of injured and poisoned wildlife. Moholoholo also facilitates a number of successful breeding programme(http://www.conservationafrica. net/projects/moholoholo.php).
The wild dog was once found virtually throughout sub-Saharan Africa, with the exception of the forests, but has been greatly reduced. Nowadays their distribution is very fragmented. Viable populations probably only survive in six countries, namely Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Their total population is somewhere between 2000 and 3000. |

What an intense stare you have caught, Loes. I love African wild dogs. Great capture of this from a frontal POV. How close were you?
Sharp details, thought there is an OE patch on his left temple. TFS : )
P.S. I love those huge ears.

Bonjour Loes,
Superbe portrait de ce lycaon : couleurs, netteté et restitué du pelage. Bravo.
Gérard
