This species has a large range, with an estimated global extent of occurrence of 3,000,000 kmē in southern Africa. The global population size has not been quantified, but it is believed to be large as the species is described as 'common' in at least parts of its range (Feare et al. 1998). Global population trends have not been quantified, but the species is not believed to approach the thresholds for the population decline criterion of the IUCN Red List (i.e., declining more than 30% in ten years or three generations). For these reasons, the species is evaluated as Least Concern.

A very cute pose, Andrea.
You did well to get such a nice eye contact with the bird. Also great colors and BG. A bit moved, but still a good shot.

Hi Amdrea,
Yes, I agree with your note that this bird can be rated as least concern. We often visit the Kruger National Park where these birds are in abundance at the picnic sites. They are very habituated and can, in some instances, be a pest. However, it is still a beautiful bird with its glossy appearance and you have captured it well.
