It was a very hot day! Rainy days were gone. Lot of insects, lizards,....
This one is photographed in Mopani Restcamp.
Technically I was surprised about the low keeper ratio
after photographing these small animals; DOF range is often too shallow and not sufficient even with very small apertures...

Maybe I'm mistaken if I say this Lizard is quite common in Kruger. Experienced this kind of error before for instance with our feathered friends here and here;thought I already spotted them but eventually they seem to be other species or subspecies.
I don't know the identification of this lizard.
It is not in my 'Kruger literature'. I remember seeing in a Kruger shop a book about 'snakes'; guess content is reptiles and amphibians; that would have been a great source.
Horia, Loot, Jacob,..... help....:-)
Wanna thank you a lot for your critiques, comments, replies,...and wish you a nice weekend!

wiki...
Lizards are reptilian, often four-legged, cold-blooded, with an integumentary system comprising scales, with a skull composed of quadrate bones. Lizards also possess external ears and movable eyelids. Encompassing forty families, there is tremendous variety in color, appearance and size. Due to their smooth, shiny appearance, lizards can appear slimy or slippery; their skin is actually very dry due to a lack of pores to excrete water and oils.

Hello Annick,
a simple photo yet a very effective one at that!
I like the composition and wide crop.
Great pose and POV.
Sharp with good clarity.
It looks kind of like a Skink... I'm not 100% though.
Well done,
Joe

Can't tell from the angle but this little guy might be either a Blue Tailed or a Spotted Sandevelt lizard.

The blue tail has stripes on its back, the Sandvelt has spots on its back. The blue tail, amazing enough, has a blue tail. The Sandvelt has an orange tail.

Outstanding shot of this lizard with sharp details and lovely colours. Superb natural lighting and the BG provides a perfect base to let the contrasting lizard to stand out perfectly. Great POV and DOF. Very nicely composed too. Kudos.

Hello Annick

It looks like it has it's eye on something to eat.I like the pose.
The composition is lovely, the setting is beautiful and uncluttered.
The colours are well saturated.
As always the shot is well focused with sharp detail.
Nicely done.
TFS

You saw so many animals there ,was a man named Noah around by any chance?

Hi Annick,
You always posted the predators now you are posting the prey. A pretty image of this beautiful lizard. Well composed with very nice details. Usually I have read in some photography forums that macro shots doesn't look good with a lot of empty space. But this looks superb. Photography is an inbuilt art. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Annick

You sure raised the difficulty level with the question for the ID of this little "Godzilla wannabe". What makes it more complex is the fact that one do not see very much of the lizard so it is rather complicated to compare. Anyway, I was considering the Yellow-throated plated lizard - Gerrhosaurus flavigularis, but I am a bit concerned that the head of the specimen on your photo might be a bit too large to fit this species so probably its the wrong ID.

I do not think it's a Spotted sandveld lizard - Nucras intertexta either, as mentioned by SD Davidson (azleader), as this species show large black spots (more like blotches) all the way along the side of the head up to the nose. The Blue-tailed sandveld lizard - Nucras caesicaudata, also mentioned by (azleader), is a good possibility, but unfortunately I cannot see the well defined black & yellow lines that should display on the back and on the top of the head. Upon further investigation though I found a better side view of this lizard which probably confirms that it must be the Blue-tailed sandveld lizard - Nucras caesicaudata. Actually the final word resides with you to confirm whether this guy had a blue tail, an orange tail, or a spotted black tail. I think this information would possibly resolve the question.

A fabulous composition. With the well detailed rock and lizard placed at the bottom 1/3 axis of the horizontal plane and the rest of the image showing nothing else but the OOF rocky (or sandy) habitat as BG. It just gives the photo that much more presentation and visual value. Excellent colour, contrast, and exposure levels achieved.

Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot
