Blue Crane (Bloukraanvoel)Anthropoides paradisea

Notes copied from Japie Venters " The Enquirer"
( Hope you don't mind Japie, your notes were so comprehensive and good I felt it was pointless to try and re-invent the wheel.}

I posted this bird to show the pattern of the feathers of this elegant bird. Hope you enjoy.

It is a tall elegant bird with a longish tail. Size 102-107 cm .

The bill is pointed, and short. It is pinkish in colour. The eyes are brown and the legs and feet black.

The Blue Crane is blue-grey in colour, lighter on the head, and darker on the tail. It has a long neck and bulbous looking head. The tail is longish, and consists of long feathers, which hang towards the ground.

The Blue Crane is a species of farmland and open grasslands. It is common in the wheat lands of the Western Cape and in parts of the Karoo and Eastern Cape. It is usually seen striding over the veldt.

The blue crane has a very loud guttural rattling croak: Kraaaak sound, which is often uttered on the wing. This sound can often be heard from a long distance away.

Blue Cranes eat insects, frogs, reptiles, fish, grain, green plant shoots and grass seeds.

The Blue Crane nests from October to February. The nest is a scrape on bare ground or on a rock. It is situated in open grassland - sometimes in a moist place. It may be thinly lined or ringed with pebbles or other material.

I love it how the bird's feathers appear almost the same colour as the water on the background. Actually, the whole colouring of the picture is just perfect. Very well done. I also admire the nice sharp details you managed to get. This is a really beautiful photo.
Thank you so much for sharing
Take care,
B
P.S. I like the frame, too, nice one.

La misma maravillosa ave presentado hace dias atrás por Japie... y con gran agudeza y detalles magníficos.
Excelente DOF con todo el animal en foco y bonita composicion.

The same wonderful bird presented for days ago by Japie... and with great sharpness and magnificent details.
Excellent DOF with all animal in focus and pretty composition.

This is a very good compliment to Japies post, you got a beautiful shot and this time nothing to say about the quality of your cam, very elegant. You also made a simple but efficient framing.
For my taste the only thing I would do is put just a bit more contrast on the dark parts, but it is subjetive.
In the future will be as critic as posible, hope you do the same with my shots, I think that is the way to learn from other people opinions. Thanks.

Very good Willies.
I like this one.
Good details and colours.
Very well done.

Good shot very good details, the crane's position is not really good, it would have been better to get it on the third third of the picture.
Nice soft colors.
Well done.

Agree with others - excellent level of details on feathers and very interesting pose. Good work!

The details of the plumage is exceptional Willie. Sharp and exposure just right. The crop at the bottom... I think I would have allowd a bit more space, but it's a minor nit. Well done.

Incredible shot, Willie. Absolutely perfect. Well done!!!
