Dear friends, let's sing the Gnu song:-)

A year ago, last Thursday I was strolling in the zoo
when I met a man who though he knew the lot.
He was laying down the law about the habits of Baboons
And how many quills a porcupine has got.
So I asked him: 'What's that creature there?'
He answered: 'Oh, H'it's a H'elk'
I might of gone on thinking that was true,
If the animal in question hadn't put that chap to shame
And remarked: 'I h'aint a H'elk. I'm a Gnu!'

'I'm a Gnu, I'm a Gnu
The g-nicest work of g-nature in the zoo
I'm a Gnu, How do you do
You really ought to k-now w-ho's w-ho's
I'm a Gnu, Spelt G-N-U
I'm g-not a Camel or a Kangaroo
So let me introduce,
I'm g-neither man nor moose
Oh g-no g-no g-no I'm a Gnu'

Have a g-nood day..

Hi Annick

Oooih, I'm jealous. I would so love to get a gnu to remain still on the ground so I could get a close-up shot like this. In all my years (18 of them) of visiting our game parks I could never get one of these stubborn animals to stick around when I come close by. They jump up and vamoos at the speed of white light and stand and watch you from a distance.

This is a great shot even down to the razor sharp strand of hair coming out of its nostril. The soft lighting is a bonus from what looks like one of those overcast days we had during our October holiday in the Park. The colours are stunning.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Very excellent shot Annick of this Gnu. I like the square crop you went for with the portrait, to focus in on the animals head, and you really have his attention. Depth of field is good, isolating the animal from it's background. Colour and detail are both very good. And the song is definitely one I haven't heard before. Now we need some music to go with it.

Thanks, John

Hi Annick.
Once more simply outstanding shot. Its quality impresses my imagination. I like composition of the image so much. Especially I like imaged of the cute plants from sharp one to blurred another on brown-red ground. It is clear the image of the animal cannot be better. My all compliments.
Alexei.

A perfect portrait of a fine specimen in its prime Annick, whether it is an Elk or a Gnu! I do not have enough information on the topic, but I think an Elk does not possess such horns as this majestic specimen displays...
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hallo Annick,
Jammer dat er geen muzieknootjes in je note staan, kon ik meezingen.
De foto is weer ontzettend goed in alle opzichten. Fantastische uitsnede.

Hi Annick,
Wonderful portrait shot of this Gnu in a calm pose. Fabulous eye contact and immaculate sharp details. The muted lighting works well here. I like your low POV to portray it and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Fantastic, Annick.
I have never seen the details on a gnu's face from that close up. What a funny snout!
And how did you get him to look at you like that?
A wonderful shot. TFS. : )
