The Red-winged Starling, Onychognathus morio, is a bird native to eastern Africa from Ethiopia to the Cape in South Africa.

Originally breeding mainly on rocky cliffs, outcrops and gorges, it is now common in urban areas, using buildings and other man-made structures as nest sites.

While yours truly was having breakfast with the female Bushbuck posted yesterday, this Red-winged starling was busy with its nest built upon the airconditioning just under the roof in the hut nextdoor. My neighbours were a young girl with her old grandma.

Ya know...what makes this work real good for me is the curves...You have the natural curve of the bird which is sometimes hidden by feathers but one knows it is there and sees through it...then the branch is curved as well...sort of but not totally symbiotic:-) Neat Annick!

Nice shot Annick.
I might have tried to pull the shadow up a bit more..
A bit too much dead space behind the bird also IMHO.

Hi Annick,

Well done under the lighting conditions. The light in the background can often confuse the exposure.

Robin

Another good picture in difficult lighting Annick. Well done!

Hi Annick,
Nice detail on the head of the bird. Well composed with a good exposure. A little bit to center, for me.
