Update: probably an African mourning dove.
Thanks Ivan, Mike,...
The Red-eyed Dove (Streptopelia semitorquata) is a pigeon which is a widespread resident breeding bird in Africa south of the Sahara.
It is a common, if not abundant, species in most habitats other than desert.

Hello Annick,
Excellent close portait of a Mourning dove (Streptopelia decipiens). The red round the eye is characteristic. The red-eyed Dove actually has red eyes. This species is less common then the red-eyed.
Nice and sharp to see the details, especially the eyes.
TFS,
Ivan

Hello Annick!

This one looks really sad. Maybe because of its pose, maybe because of red ring around its eye. Anyway - very good portrait of interesting specie.

Pigeons, even though they are pests in many areas of the world, can be really quite attractive. I do like the red eye make-up Annick. You show the eye nice and sharply
And Doo-doo-du-du to you too,
Janice

Hi Annick,
Good quality portrait of this pigeon. Very sharp, great POV.
I don't like pigeons, but this one is exception :)

Hi Annick. fantastic close up of the head and eye of the Dove. Your picture shows the red eye ring so well. Good detail and natural colours in the feathers. well done TFS.

Hi Annick
Very beautiful portrait with superb detail as always. The bird is definitely the African Mourning Dove and not the Red-eyed dove. I have confirmed this with my Roberts and Newmans bird books - the main difference is the yellow Iris.

Hi Annick,
really like the way you've framed this, the portrait format is well chosen and the DOF excellent. Interesting name, guess it's used in funerals??
cheers,
Paul

Nice shot. Good low pov and sharply focussed.
