I mistook it for an early flower bud in the Springbulb - however, one day when I watered the pot, it opened its eyes... A friend identified it as
Tinker Reed Frog, Hyperolius Tuberilinguis, 30 – 35 mm.
Above: Plain opaque green, yellow or brown. Below: Cream coloured granular skin. Males have a yellow throat. Limbs: Orange or yellow inner limbs and webbing. Habitat: Lowveld pans. Calls from concealed positions in reeds. Call: Two rapid staccato taps in less than a second (or occasionally a series of several taps) with long intervals in between. |
