[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Driving towards the airforce base at Hoedspruit on an overcast day, I saw this charactor standing just off in the shrub about 20 metres from the game fence. I parked and slowly walked down the embankment and positioned myself next to the fence post to take pics. He moved a LOT closer and this pic was taken roughly 6 metres from him at 235m!. I will post another later when he was a little further off. Unfortunately for me, I was wearing a red shirt!!! He was not overly impresssed with me in his space and I retreated so as not to provoke him any further. Afterwards, one realises how close one was with just some wires between us. Nevertheless, a magnificent animal and I hope you enjoy the shot as much as I did taking it.

Taken in RAW, converted, levels and a little balance for the lighting, applied the 20D plugin slightly for sharpening, improved the crop slightly, resized for site.

Funny enough I posted a frog today, shot and croped in a similar maner, a profile full head portrait.

I really think this is a superb shot. I like the tight crop and full frme composition. Exposure is spot on. Colors are perfect here. Nice detail with a perfect OOF backround. Very well done!

Great super-close up. I know this animals to be dangerous. Good thing with that fence.
You have to deal with some unexpected situations there. You need some guts to get some of the shots.

Nice portrait!

Exposure and focus render excellent details in this dark subject. Il like the framing and the sqare format. At the first look I would like to see more of its horn since its a main caracteristic of this kind of animals, but it could also have decreased composition effectiveness.
