Another kingfisher, but not the same bird that was in my last post. Taken near the end of the day at the side of Sunset Dam as this one came in close [about 5 metres away] and was watching for the supper menu from this branch. I had to turn very slowly in the car seat to get this shot as it was a bit behind my window.

These birds are amazing to watch and they are fearless when it comes to food. I have another post with one "showing off" his catch to a hammerkop in the tree, quite comical.

Shot with my 100-400mm lens resting on an ergo rest mount, The only downside was the sun was behind and to the right of the bird - but then again, we can't always get them to pose as we want!!

Tanks for all the crits and comments so far - much appreciated, cheers Tim

Tim,

This is a very good picture. It is a pity about the backlighting, but you handled it well, I must say. In all other aspects the picture is perfect. The pose is absolutely perfect. Well done.

Jan-Hendrik

Excellent compo and details.

Nice and well presented shot, Tim!
I like kingfishers :) I have seen this kind of bird in North Africa on my visit to Nile and Egypt.

Hello Tim,
I really love these birds and this capture is very fine. He's obviously ready to dive any second! Great sharpness and I love its pose on the leafy branch. Excellent composition!

A beautiful kingfisher, Tim.
I like its black and white plumage.
Great close-up with sharp details and perfect exposure.
He looks intent on catching some dinner, and I, for one,
would not like to be on the other end of that huge beak.
