Hi Annick,
Hearing sounds of birds, is the main way I manage to photograph them! You hear the sound first and then you find them :)! This is a particular specie that doesn't look like any other I know. Composition is judicious with good details and nice exposure considering these lightning conditions. Thanks,
Claudine

Hello Annick,
Amazing to read about this Burchell's Coucal, which is heard more often than seen & also known as "rainbird". The call, sounding like water running out of a bottle, is said to presage rain. You were lucky to get it so close with excellent sharpness, details & POV. Very appropriately said as Rain Bird; it looks as if it was enjoying the rain, hence absolutely wet plumage & feathers........TFS.
Regards-Subhash
PS: In India we come across Greater Coucal (Crow Pheasant) frequently.

Hello Annick,
Coucals are great birds! You're right the best way to know where they are is to hear them first.
This a great shot of a Burchell's, still calling when you took it. I like the composition with the curved branch that it on and the POV and lighting are excellent.
TFS this beauty,
Ivan

I love this image Annick. I love the colors of this bird against that gray sky. I also like what the even light does to the feathers. It is just a super image with that wonderful curved branch. super work!

What a beautiful looking fellow he is - even with his wet feathers. It looks like an old man bird!! And you have caught him in full voice too,

Hi Annick
Great shot of this coucal in overcast conditions. Considering the conditions the exposure is perfect, with lots of detail and surprising contrast against the cloudy background. Good composition and sharpness.

Hi Annick
Very unusual photo of this somewhat wet looking Coucal. You have even managed to get the droplets of water on the tree. It is seldom that a Coucal will pose like this, they are usually scrambling amongst the bushes.Superb photo.

Hi Annick,
I like the "I am soaked!" look of this coucal.
His expression seems to reflect his utter annoyance.
I also like the clean sky BG and the composition.
The jumble of branches make an interesting perch and add interest to the scene.
TFS. : )
