Digging for Water
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This image was taken in the Addo Game reserve. The white co;our of the elephant is from the soil in this area due to the mud or dust that they through on themselves.
South Africa is a water poor country and the animals here have had to adapt to either using as little water as possible (unlike us humans) or finding ways to get hold of water. Elephant can detect water under the surface and have learnt to dig for it as shown here. This could have been a water hole that was abit dry for this elephants taste so he is making a plan. |

Hi robin. this is one of my most liked animals. They look old even when they are young with the wrinkled skin . i have only seen them in a zoo when i was young maybe some day i will see them in the wild. you have use the bright light to give natural colours. to the skin with good detail. a great picture using a sigma 70 300.
well done TFS.
Nick..
This is a very sharp, full frame image. I suspect you cropped this or else you were too close to this guy! : ) The crop is a bit tight on the right side but is such an interesting pose and subject that it isn't too noticeable. Nice work

Well captured
Janice
Hallo Robin
This certainly is a beautiful animal. We South-Africans are fortunate to have such a variety of lovely animals in our parks, and especially Kruger Park. Unfortunately we have never had the opportunity to visit the Addo Elephant Park. You have managed to capture this elephant at a good and open spot. Looking at the image I can see evidence that this guy is really enjoying the mud although it is digging for water. A great close up of this massive animal. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna
