[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I know that there are a few flying gannet shots about on TN but I figured I'd post it anyway since I'd just posted another fairly recently. The thumbnail seems to have created a bit of distortion around the bird in the compression so I hope you enjoy the full view.

This shot was also taken on Bird Island in Algoa Bay (see previous post - Room to Move - for details of the islands and gannets). The light was not the greatest being around midday when the shot was taken (hence the lack of clouds as they'd all blown away by then), so I was quite happy with the blue hue of the sky behind the bird.

As you'll see the shot was taken at a high shutter speed to capure the birds in motion and I'd tried quite a few before getting this shot in.

Even so I had to remove some distracting buildings the tops of which crept in in the bottom left corner with a bit of editing. Apart from that I've only sharpened the image up a bit after resizing the original.

There is a continual stream of gannets arriving and leaving from the island as they return from their feeding bouts out at sea so it took some time before I was able to get just a single bird in the shot.

Cheers
Guy
