Blue Widebeest at a waterhole in the Kagalagadi Transfrontier Park, at a camp called Nossob.
It was a wind stil morning at sunrise and the dust was hanging in the air.

Enjoy and please let me know what you think.

Hello Ben and welcome to Trek Nature. This is a beautiful first post. The dust, light and silhouettes of the wildebeests make for an interesting composition.

Hallo Ben

Welcome to Trek Nature
My name is Aaltjie. I am a Dutchman staying in South Africa. Although I do not participate in posting photos, I enjoy very much looking and admiring other people’s talents and skills with a camera.

Really nice silhouette, nice atmosphere, nice capture!

Thank you for sharing this special moment.

As I mentioned I am to old to start with photography, but what I have seen from others, (hope I am right) that the more information you give regarding your photo, the more the members would want to come back to visit your portfolio. I have also seen that new members must be willing to accept criticism being negative or positive.

I would like to be presumptuous and mention a few members who I have seen that is not in any way selfish to give help, or advice. These ones are all from South Africa. (But there are plenty others) Loot Eksteen, Jan Hendrik van Rooyen, Willem Botha, AC van Dyk, etc. etc. Just let your fingers do the walking through the members list.

This way the older members will take you and guide you. I learn everyday through the very important notes, feedbacks and critiques given by fellow photographers, and I am not a photographer myself, but man how have I grown in knowledge this past few months. There is always something new to learn.

Anyway enough of the lecture. I am sure I’ll visit you again soon.
Kind regards
Aaltjie

Hi Ben,
Love the light & drama of this scene with the dust flying & silhouted bodies, the only distractant being the bright patch on the right but nevertheless very absorbing.

Hello Ben,
First of all, welcome to TN fraternity.
Your make your debut with a highly artistic capture of a scene at a waterhole in Africa. Capturing this kind of atmosphere is a daunting task which you have accomplished admirably.
I have derived immense pleasure by looking at this wonderful picture.
Thanks for sharing it and take care.
Ram

Very atmospheric photo with lots going on. It is the dust that really makes it work well. Colours are mellow and soft, almost sepia.
Well done on giving us your first post!
Hope you enjoy TN.

Simon

Welcome to TN Ben... great first post with amazing point of view and light effect.

I like it a lot: composition, POV, DOF, focus, sharpness, colors, lighting, background, framing.

I like it: notes.

I don't like it: the lack of the values of the image and camera.

Excellent scene with a backlighting very well achieved.
A cordial greeting from Buenos Aires... Ricardo

Hi Ben

This photo takes me back a few years when I tried to get a similar shot. The dust and lighting certainly make the shot and I think that the contrast between the light flare top right and the water reflection and dark tones set up a good contrast in the shot.

Thanks
Guy

The light is beautiful. Also, the various positions of the widebeasts and the dust makes one feel as if one were standing there.

Howdy Ben, Hierdie pragtig foto. What a beautiful backlit scene.

Who cares if the detail is missing, it is the mood of the moment that counts, and you have certainly captured that!
Outstanding. Tfs, Baie Dank, Jay.

This is a superb shot Ben, a work of art. The hues and mood lighting are fabulous. Beautifully composed and great exposure catching the dust and light together with the silouettes of the Wildebeest. I am sure that it is a shot we all would like to take. You should have it printed to grace any wall.
