[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This Cape Weaver sat on the sun-lit branches of a Tortured Willow (Salix matsudana ‘tortuosa’). Minutes later all was in shade as the sun set behind the mountains.

Cape Weaver Ploceus capensis. This male is in his winter plumage. Cape Weavers are found singly, in pairs or flocks almost anywhere where there are trees or bushes, usually near water. They form flocks in winter, often with Starlings.

Their food consists of flowers and other soft parts of plants; also insects and seeds. Their foreheads often become discoloured with pollen.

The males build large kidney-shaped nests from grass and reeds, usually hung from trees over water. When the nest is finished, the female inspects it. Once the female accepts, she adds the lining. If she doesn't accept, the male dismantles the nest and starts all over again.

Really like the late light here, great color & BG.
Excellent detail/sharpness, DOF, POV and well composed..I don't find the branches a distraction whatsoever, but rather frame the subject into a work of art :)

Hi Irmgard,
beautiful golden light, the shapes created by the twisting branches in the BG add something special to this shot. Great vivid colour and spot on focus. A great pose as well, you've caught this great looking bird at it's best.
