The African Buffalo or Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a bovid from the family of the Bovidae. It is up to 1.7 meters high, 3.4 meters long. Savannah type buffaloes weigh 500-900 kg, with only males, normally larger than females, reaching the upper weight range. Forest type buffaloes are only half that size. The African Buffalo is not closely related to the slightly larger Wild Asian Water Buffalo, but its ancestry remains unclear. Owing to its unpredictable nature which makes it highly dangerous to humans, it has not been domesticated, unlike its Asian counterpart, the Domestic Asian Water Buffalo.

Hello Annick,
Nice to see famous Syncerus caffer from Africa with your post. Excellent details and composition on this perfect portraite. Nicely framed.
I saw them fighting with leons on documentray films. It may be dangerous for human in very close place. Take care and have a nice weekend.

He looks like an enormous mass of pure muscle. I love the light on the horns and the way they fit into the frame. Eye contact is super.

I truly love this guy Annick. He looks as though he could survive just about anything that comes at him/her...not having read notes yet....but doggone it...these types are some of your best showing the years and wise markings...

Hi Annick

Great pose - I like the 'expression' of contempt on the buffalos face. Very good detail.

I posed a shot of a Forest Buffalo in my Uganda section.

Hallo annick,

groet Gert

Hello Annick,
A superb portrait of an African Buffalo bull, the lighting and the bull's expression adding interest to the image. The sharpness and composition are of course up to usual high standard.
Thanks for sharing this fine image,
Ivan

Hello Annick,
Excellent shot showing a fine specimen of African Buffalo. Just look at those massive horns, no wonder humans have not been able to tame it so far.
It's a fine picture with good lighting, details and DOF.

TFS and Regards,
Smitha.

Hello Annick,
Good portrait, I like the focus on the horns

Hi Annick
I like your shot much more than the one I have posted for comparison purposes - your lighting is so much better. It makes me realize the difference between a good and average shot.TFS.

Hi Annick,

Oups! I've missed that one!

Really like the tight crop.

Oops this looks somehow similar to the one in our village. I remember my old days. Nice shot. Ganesh

Hello Annick!
If I remember, this is one of 3 the most dangerous African animals (after hippo and crocodile). Very nice portrait with great sharpness and details. Note is short but brings interesting information about species.
All the best!

Hi Annick,
A bit late, but very good portrait of this buffle.
I hope you where at safe distance, they can be as dangerous as rhino. Fine details and composition.
