Beautiful creature James, looking so intent on its prey, I think. A good and sharply delineated take from a lateral POV with fine plumage and colouration details, an extra "bravo" if you've captured this handheld! We have a close relative here, Alcedo atthis, which has more subdued coloring.

Hi James

This is a lovely close-up of this gorgeous kingfisher! I really like the colors and details in its plumage and the fact that you managed to get such a great POV that there is really nothing else in the frame to distract the attention - the BG is just so beautiful and uniform.
I saw kingfishers around here a few times but never got a good shot of one...they are so very scared of any human presence :(
So even more, again congrats on this wonderful shot!

Hello James,

These are incredible little birds with their oversized beaks. I wonder how they manage to balance. There are supposed to be kingfishers around a stream about 1/2 a mile from my house and though I have been to watch, I have never seen any!

This is an excellent post! The bird is perfectly placed in shot, wonderfully coloured, with eyes down, probably searching for food.

Hi James. This is some bright looking Bird. Your 400 lens has worked well . giving good detail and sharp focus. a nice POV/DOF. Its red bill must look like a dart when it dives into the water. TFS.

What a stunning shot of this Malachite Kingfisher, the colours are amazing, excellent detail well composed and framed, it really stands out from the oof background, and with that splash of green on the left just adds to the overall composition. Really nice work mate,

Hallo James
Kingfishers will always remain my favourite bird. This is an excellent photo of a Malachite. I remember my first posting on Trek Nature also being a Kingfisher and a dedication to my husband Loot. Splendid photography. Every little detail is just excellent. From the feathers on this beauty's head, right down to the paws clutching onto the branch. It is amazing how bright the paws and that lovely beak are. This is quite outstanding and one of the best Malachite shots I've seen. I love the pose of the bird, details are razor sharp and colours wonderful. A fine composition and the frame fit very nicely. A swanky little bird. Thanks for sharing.
