The African Buffalo or Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a bovid from the family of the Bovidae.
It is up to 1.7 meters high, 3.4 meters long. Savannah type buffaloes weigh 500-900 kg, with only males, normally larger than females, reaching the upper weight range. Forest type buffaloes are only half that size. The African Buffalo is not closely related to the slightly larger Wild Asian Water Buffalo, but its ancestry remains unclear. Owing to its unpredictable nature which makes it highly dangerous to humans, it has not been domesticated, unlike its Asian counterpart, the Domestic Asian Water Buffalo.

It's an all-over mud pack - used not just for his face!
So good to see Annick. I have read about how dangerous they can be - this fellow looks like he is quite happy to see you there - as long as you keep a far away...

Very good photo of this guy just coming out from a mud bath
Well done

Hi Annick,
As usual, nothing negative on the photo. I find the subject interesting with all this mud still wet on him.

Hi Annick,
I have seen a documentary about one of those animals who has attacked and killed a woman... They are very unpredictable indeed and they have long memory...The attackan was once injured by this woman who have shot him but missed him and leave him injured… This is a nice and well realized portrait of this impressive creature. Thanks,
Claudine

Hello Annick, a lovely capture of this wonderful Buffalo in a wonderful POV. TFS. Regards,
Mehmet

Hi Annick,

Once more an excellent photo. Exposure is well handled and even grass hanging from the horn and a highlight in the eye which is allways difficult with the buffalo

Hello Annick

Together with the hippo, this is one of Africa's most underestimated animals, highly dangerous and very unpredictable. While I'm writing this I actually heard over the news of another incident of a hippo killing a man somewhere on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.

You show us a lovely specimen after some beauty treatment.

Greetings
AC

PS. I have e-mailed you, but I am not sure if you received it so if you will pardon me for shoving my nose where it maybe do not belong. I have noticed that there are a number of postings you apparently did not detect. I am sure you will find these most interesting.

Hi Annick

Wonderful shot - I like the glistening mud. Good detail throughout.

James

Hi Annick,
Thank you very much for liking the dedication. This one is a nasty fella. It looks like just came out of mud. Very well composed with sharp details. Wish you have also captured the head as closeup it would make a very good portrait. But be careful with these ones. Because you can predict when a lion is about to attack but you can't predict about this one ;). Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Annick, Wonderful and lovely capture of this huge African Bufalo... TFS my friend.
Cheers,

Bayram
